Orientation meeting about CFI
On Monday 23 September from 10 am to 1 pm Centre for Internet Studies will host an open orientation meeting about CFI and the centre's activities.
The orientation meeting is aimed at researchers who are currently studying or plan to study the internet or use the internet as a research tool, and who would like to be associated with a collegial forum where internet research in a human and/or social science perspective is the focal point.
Centre for Internet Studies is a research-driven centre, which has been around since September 2000 and whose broad purpose is "to promote research into the social and cultural implications and functions of the internet." Through the years, this has happened via research projects, conferences, seminars, lectures, inviting guest researchers, and hosting social events such as receptions for books and the like.
This coming fall will hold, among other things, a one-day seminar entitled "The Self in the age of social media - philosophical perspectives" (4 October) and a launch event for the publication of the book Facebook i den danske hverdag: Fra socialt netværk til metamedie (ed. Jakob Linaa Jensen & Jesper Tække). The latter of two will take place right after the orientation meeting, i.e. 23 September from 1:30 pm to 3 pm.
All researchers interested in the internet can join CFI, including, of course, doctoral students, and since the centre opened, there have been members from virtually all disciplines of the "old" humanities, theology, social sciences and the business school.
So if you are interested in talking to other researchers about your internet-related research, CFI may be just the place for you. The presentations at the meeting will be in Danish (cf. programme below) but everyone is welcome to join in the discussion. If you are interested but not able to attend the meeting, feel free to contact centre director Niels Brügger.
