The internet has enabled the proliferation of software tools for collecting and analyzing data, and opened up new opportunities for qualitative as well as quantitative research. CFI is committed to the ongoing exploration and development of internet-based methods, and software for collecting and visualizing data. We further engage in ongoing methodological discussions in internet research. We are concerned with how to design cross-platform internet research; with the practical and ethical challenges of studying semi-public or closed internet spaces; and with the inherent assumptions of the software we use to collect and analyse data.
